Blowin' Smoke

An Editorial by dieselmann
Volume 5; September/October 99: Fresno PowerStroke Rally; dieselmann's Store

I know I'm a little behind on writting a new Blowin' Smoke, but with the Rally in Fresno and setting up my new site, some things got pushed back.

I'd like to think that the Fresno PowerStroke Rally was a limited success. Attendence was low; unofficial count was 276 visitors, but some may have slipped by the sign-in booth. It may have been due to the time of year; many crops are being harvested; and a result of the major fires which were burning at the time. There is some question as to whether there was enough, or timely, promotion of the event, but as Arnold from DEPO said, "This is the first time we have done this. It's a learning experience and hopefully we can make it better next year."

Other than attendance, the show came off pretty well. Vendors were on hand to supply information on their products and held seminars on specific aftermarket devices. The seminars were more informative than "sales pitch". The major manufacturers reprsented there were Advanced Turbo Systems (ATS), Gale Banks Engineering, BD Diesel Performance Co., InterMotive Systems, Olympic Coatings, Gear Vendors, Racor and Filter Products Co. ATS, Racor, BD, and InterMotive had factory reps there, but most were represented by jobber/distributors who also install the items at their shops. I'd like to thank each of these for their efforts at the Rally:

Brian Rodriges of Diesel Fuel Systems, Fresno
Paul Dean of Advanced Diesel Systems, Fresno
Tom Patterson of Filter Engineering, Corona
Jeff Harmonsen of H&H Performance, Fresno
Larry Collins of Collins Diesel Injection, Stockton
And, of course, Marion Vosburg from Accent/Auto Diesel Tune, Fresno and
Arnold Soares and John Santos of DEPO, Porterville, for inviting me down.

Hopefully, I didn't leave anyone out, but I didn't get a chance to talk to everyone. Also on hand was a reprisentative from the PowerStroke Registry, whom I didn't get a chance to meet.

Most of the trucks entered in the show were 99 models. Winners of the truck competition were:

Top Prize: Chuck Chaplinski's 6X6 F-350
Most Unique: Top Gun 1 & Top Gun 2, Richard Markarian
Most Engine Retrofits: Brad Ponci
Furthest Traveled: Chris Mc Guire from Bothell, Wa.
Most Accessories: Bruce Kelly.

Thanks also goes out to Mike Haney and the Fresno City College and the Ford ASSET program for the use of the facilities.

Hopefully, next year's Rally will be bigger and better. I will post when and where to be in the year 2000 for the next California PowerStroke Rally as soon as it is announced.

Now, on to new business.

In the past, visitors to my pages have asked me where to get items and products for their PowerStrokes and Ford diesels. Some of you were unable to find the anti-foaming, fuel or coolant additives, Amsoil products, or tools such as a drain pan large enough to hold a complete oil drain from a PowerStroke or to remove the fuel filter cover. Now I can say the answer to these questions is right here, or more properly, at dieselmann's Store. I am now an Amsoil dealer, so those of you looking for synthetic lubricants or improved filtering systems can find those products for your truck. These can be ordered directly from Amsoil using my ZO#512356. I am also arranging to be able to offer cooling system filter kits, K&N filters, system additives, Racor fuel filters (manufacturer of the PowerStroke fuel filter for Ford), and parts from Ford which I have found to be usefull in every day service of these engines, but which the parts counter never seems to have on hand. I'll also be selling select accessories for the Ford diesel trucks, and suggestions would be welcomed.

At present I'm limited to taking checks and money orders but, hopefully as business picks up, I will be adding a secure server to accept credit cards.
So, please visit dieselmann's Store and contact me via E-mail if there is something you are interested in, or if you have any suggestions of items you would like to see.
